South Mendoza Region

It is located in San Rafael and General Alvear counties at between 34.5 to 35 degrees south latitude; and it extends over the foot of Los Andes. The waters of the Atuel and Diamante rivers bath this oasis. Its heights above mean sea level vary from 2,625ft in Las Paredes and Cuadro Nacional districts to 1,476ft in the district of Carmensa, in General Alvear county where there are slopes of about 1%. Its annual media temperature is about 15ºC. The vineyards area extends for over 72,750 acres and there are about 200 cellars. This region is the main producer of Chenin grapes, which give its wines their particular features. This variety is propitious to obtain fruity wines that present an exceptional relation between acidity and alcohol. This region also produces other varieties of white and red wine; and some of the most distinguished selections are produced from Chardonnay, Malbec and Cabernet-Sauvignon grapes.
