Wine Tasting

Always grasp the wine glass by its stem

What does Wine Tasting mean?

Wine Tasting is a process in which wines are organoleptically analized. In other words, it is the sensory evaluation of the wine.

Wine Tasting Aims

  • Learn how to detect and identify senses and to express them.
  • Acquire psychological independence.
  • Attain exercises autonomy.

Wine Tasting Procedures

Pour wine and give a smooth rotation to the glass.  This movement, while increasing the natural evaporation surface of the liquid, allows to give off the aromatic characteristics with greater intensity. Finally take a small zip of wine to the mouth. Once in, slightly open the lips, take a breath so a small bubbling impregnates all over the taste buds and the rest of the mouth. The wine qualities will be appraised at this moment, not only the tasty, but when swallowed, a small portion of liquid will complete the tasty sensations with its smell through the pharyngeal way (more intense at this moment). Well, lets precise better the visual, aromatic and tasty characteristics of wines.

It is worth noticing that sunlight is vital for the visual appreciation. Artificial light from lamps can spoil observation. If possible, it is convenient to contrast the content of the glass with a white background, which can be a regular sheet of paper, to avoid the interference of odd
colors. Having made this first remark, there follows the first smelling of the wine, which remains still in the glass, in order to get the first aromatic impression.
